Thinking of coffee?

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

Many people can’t manage without their hit of caffeine in the morning.  A coffee is part of their daily ritual, wethere it be a quick instant coffee or a nice brew from their favourite cafe.  The active ingredient in coffee that gives it the stimulating effect is caffeine, a central nervous system stimulant.  Another effect of caffiene is a diuretic effect, which means your body excretes more water.

Coffee is the worlds most consumed psychoactive and legal drug, which makes it a good business.  Coffee shop franchising is popular as people are looking for a business that is fairly recession proof.  It’s one of the few luxuries, and sometimes a necassaity that people aren’t willing to give up.

VIDEO: Erik Lie Research Suggests Bankruptcy Won’t Help GM Much

New research by Erik Lie, a finance professor in the Tippie College of Business, suggests today’s bankruptcy filing by General Motors will be of little help to the company’s long-term prospects. In this video, he explains that his study shows most companies declaring Chapter 11 bankruptcy emerge too soon and with too much debt to remain competitive with their peer companies.

Mixed results on the Microfinance front

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Contrary to the attention grabbing headline, the Jury is still out on microfinance. Here is at least some evidence that it does not do all that we hope. That said, the conclusion is definitely more controversial.

The verdict is in on microfinance - PSD Blog - The World Bank Group:

“The results from the first large-scale randomized trial of access to microfinance indicate that it comes up short in many areas of human development. 52 of 104 slums in Hyderabad were randomly selected to receive new branches of a microfinance outfit called Spandana. Abhijit Banerjee and the other randomistas from the Poverty Action Lab describe the results in The Miracle of Microfinance? Evidence from a Randomized Evaluation:

…microcredit does have important effects on business outcomes and the composition of household expenditure. Moreover, these effects differ for different households, in a way consistent with the fact that a household wishing to start a new business must pay a fixed cost to do so. Existing business owners appear to use microcredit to expand their businesses….

[BUT] … it appears to have no discernible effect on education, health, or womens’ empowerment. Of course, after a longer time, when the investment impacts (may) have translated into higher total expenditure for more households, it is possible that impacts on education, health, or womens’ empowerment would emerge. However, at least in the short-term (within 15-18 months), microcredit does not appear to be a recipe for changing education, health, or womens’ decision-making.:”

The headline aside, the authors correctly point out that 15-18 months is a short a time period to measure dramatic changes. That the loans help the business (which in the longer term would be predicted to positively impact education, wealth, health, and MAYBE women’s equality issues), is enough for me to remain skeptical of any article saying the verdict is in.

BTW I included this for completeness and to overcome any bias I have in its favor ;) In my limited personal experience, microloans have worked VERY well. True my experience is limited (I won’t count Kiva even thouh that has been positive too!), but locally the loans served their purpose (the borrowers had no access to credit) and the borrowers have made every payment to date.

So, I guess more research is needed to determine what about microfinance works (or under what conditions), and when it does not.

Best Home Business Opportunities to Make Money Online.

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Looking to start a home business in 2009? Using the Internet to find, manage, market or start a business from home has many advantages, which is why thousands start a home business opportunity every year.

I think I’m qualified to shed some light on choosing the best home business opportunity to start up, I’ve started a few businesses and have been working from home to earn a steady income for a couple of years now. I like Internet based business opportunities and ideas, they are creative, profitable and can be fun. I’ve met a number of helpful people in my online business career and have yet to find a business question I couldn’t get answered when I’m willing to ask.

The one question I get a lot of via email, comments on blogs, and on the phone is ” What is the best home business to start?” While part of me would like to point a person to one of the affiliate business ideas that I promote, I know that just doesn’t work. I also know of a number of ways to make money online, without joining a network marketing company or a turnkey business opportunity, but the average person, wouldn’t follow through and its a bugger trying to explain a good income generating business online anyway.

Keeping it simple, most people have a few hours to spare and they know that people make money online somehow, so they want in on the action. For many people, the fastest way to make money online is to start a turnkey home business opportunity.

What is a Turnkey Home Business Opportunity?

Its pretty simple really, a home business opportunity that uses a system to train people, provides product or services, and a structure to operate with is known as a turnkey business opportunity. Most new business opportunities online are turnkey business opportunities.

A parent company basically allows you to be a distributor or representative of their product or service and they pay a healthy commission when you make a sale. Its a fancy way of outsourcing a sales force. Many of the business ideas are nothing more than an affiliate marketing business idea.

What is the Best Home Business Opportunity?

Choosing the best home business opportunity to start is really dependent on you, the home business entrepreneur. What are your interests? Your hobbies? Have you ever thought of turning a hobby into a business? I think its important to have a genuine interest in the product or service that your business offers. There are thousands of ways to make money and if your going to be doing the work anyway, why not pick something your interested in, right?

I have an interest in personal development, and I came across a home business in the personal development field, I was really surprised there was a business in this field. The business is a turnkey business opportunity. The systems were in place, the warehousing, shipping, customer service, and much of the other work was done automatically or by someone else, which is great for a person who is starting a business for the first time.

I like that business mostly because I have an interest in personal development, I recommend starting a home business based on your own interests.

Working from home has many advantages, and if you know that’s what you want to do, then the rest is just a matter of finding the right business to start. Work at home based business opportunities come in every shape in size. Regardless of the money you have to invest, the time your willing to spend, or the experience you may have, you can find a home business that suits your needs.

Its worth mentioning, there are “scams” out there. I’ve learned that most of the home business opportunity scams involve a solicitation. I get weird emails from time to time about some lost uncle from Uruguay or a rich cousin in south Africa who just learned of an inherited diamond mine but needs money to start operation, those are scams, not the best home based business to start unless your a complete criminal…Use your judgement when it comes to evaluating business opportunities. If your being asked to or thinking about spending money, ask yourself, ” What am I buying”.

Making money online selling information was and still is very popular. Here is the deal. Much of the information you can purchase online, can be found for free, but that takes time. So its more of a decision on time than money. Another thing I’ve learned is that most quality information product you can sell or buy online have a review or probably several, spend some time reading what others have to say about the business information.

Many people online share their money making methods for free, they have been a valuable resource for me and others that I know. Spend some time reading about making money online and profitable business opportunities. Blogs are cool because you can often times go back months or years and actually watch an entrepreneur progress as they document there experience.

I learn to trust my gut in most areas of my life and figuring out the best business to start is no different. Here are a few more tips to help you find the right business opportunity:

  • Know how much you are willing to invest if any.
  • Know how much time you have available.
  • Have an idea of the fixed expenses your willing to finance.
  • Are you open to learning something new?
  • Does the business have to be home based.
  • Do you want to work with others or work alone?

These are all points that many home business opportunities differ on so having an idea about these few things will help you in selecting a good home business to start in 2009.

High Profit Home Business Opportunity: Top Earning Businesses.

Monday, February 16th, 2009

You’ve seen the ads and probably evaluated a business opportunity or two. What makes a home business opportunity a profitable business to start? First glance might prompt you to say, “that’s a dumb question man”, but give it a minute and think about what really makes a profitable business venture. It takes more than “making money” to answer the question correctly, I’ll explain.

There are a million ways to make money, and there are millions of ways to make money online too. Not all the ways of earning money are high profit. Lets look at profit. I like to think of profit as “whats left”. Whats left after you’ve paid the bills, and spent the time.

We have limited resources and how we use those resources pretty much defines our quality of life. Where we vacation, what we eat for dinner, who we eat dinner with, where our kids go to college… You get the picture. So when your thinking of a high profit business opportunity, keep your resources in mind. I focus on time and money. Sure there are thousands of other resources, but time and money can acquire most of those.

When I make decisions such as what business ideas I want to invest time in I look at time first, you can’t buy that, and you can’t get it back once its lost. If you trade time for money, its tough to have both, ever! So those home business ideas that require me to spend a lion share of my time in a day are automatically out. I also like top earning businesses that have a passive element or better yet, multiple streams of passive income.

Profitable online business opportunities really turn my head, there is so much passivity to online business ideas. Some of the popular online business opportunities are blogging, selling your own products, selling someone Else’s‘ products, selling ad space to someone who is or maybe a membership site. I don’t own a membership website right now, but that is a major goal of mine this year. I have a great idea for a membership site and am in planning stages. Membership websites are great for the recurring monthly membership fees you collect.

As with any high profit home business opportunity its about adding value. A couple tips worth mentioning:

  • Own your own marketing system.
  • Understand Internet marketing Before you spend money.
  • Start a blog.
  • Learn from others who have results.
  • Have a healthy scepticism but don’t be cynical.
  • Know what your trying to accomplish.
  • Don’t quit until your done.

It really makes no difference what business opportunity you choose, you have to add value and you have to persist. You will have obstacles, challenges, or difficulties, what ever you chose to call them, get over it and enjoy the journey. Help others along the way. These are a few of the top tips I can give to a person who wants to start a home business or online business.

Another thing I’ve heard a lot of is “there is so much crap on the Internet”, I don’t agree. If all you find is crap on the Internet, try looking in a different place. I’ve found dozens of successful people who are very transparent and willing to share the things that have worked for them, I think its great. You can buy information online that will save you time or you can spend time and get it all for free. Its up to you, I’ve done both, they both work.

The highest earning online business is going to be the business that you persist in. Look at your life and see the things in your past that you have persisted with. It a safe bet that you stick with the things that you were genuinely interested in, so find a business idea that really captivates your interest. Every business will have tough spots here and there, a genuine interest in the products you sell or the service you provide will help in those tough times.

There are thousands of good small business ideas, choosing the right one for you requires a little self reflection, don’t cut corners, really get into you and what you want to create, you’ll thank me later.

I hope this helps in choosing the best business to start this year. You should start a business too, it doesn’t have to be a fortune 500, keep it simple, talk to an accountant and learn about the tax benefits to starting a home business or online business. The tax advantages of starting a home business are worth it, check it out.

Best Online Business Ideas to Start-Opportunity Options

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

Thinking about starting a new business? Many people are, so I thought I’d write a short post about some different web business ideas to start from home or online. Starting the best business opportunity is about having a good idea of the results you want to create. There are thousands of different business opportunities and starting the right one can be a little tricky.

Online Business Ideas

Please look at this as a list of popular online business ideas not a list of the best online business opportunities. It truly depends on you and coming up with a list of the “best online business opportunities” is probably a waste of time and wouldn’t add much real value.

What Does It Take to Start an Internet Business?

Obviously if your going to start an online business you’ll need a connection to the Internet and access to a computer. I recommend high speed Internet as it will save you a ton of time. The most important thing to have success with an online business idea is going to be your attitude. If you’ve had success in other endeavors then it is likely you’ll have success with your online Enterprise.

One idea I like to keep at the forefront of my mind is that I need to persist longer than the other guy. Millions of people decide after a bad day at work that they want to start an online business and they get started right away. The problem with this is, a few week later they quit. If your going to start a business online you will have to persist and be consistent with your efforts.

Types of Online Businesses

As for different types of online businesses I’ll list few of the popular ones. Affiliate marketing, lead generation, advertising, info products, and blogging are all different types of online business opportunities.

Keep in mind most online business models require web traffic. Think of web traffic as the currency of the Internet. With most any business opportunity to start, web traffic will be a prerequisite. How do you get traffic? Well you can either pay for traffic via automated ads you can bid on or you can work on getting search engine traffic.

Paid traffic is pretty straight forward. Think of the specific words that one might use to find your website and bid on those words. I highly recommend learning more about keyword bidding before you jump right into buying traffic.

I recommend search engine traffic instead of paid traffic. It really all depends on your business model and the product you provide, don’t take my word for it, research it yourself.

Search engine traffic is free but not easy. You need to learn about the search engine your optimizing for and follow the guidelines they provide. There is a plethora of info online about monetizing a website and driving traffic, so do your research.

The best business opportunities will be solving a relevant problem or filling a common need. The bottom line with the best small business opportunities is they have to add value. Besides adding value, you might look at the products or service the business opportunity your evaluating is offering. Do you have a genuine interest in the products or service? I recommend finding a profitable business opportunity that you resonate with and have a genuine interest in.

The options and opportunities are really endless when it comes to businesses you can start from home or online, so pick a business that you are excited about.

How do people make money online?

The bottom line for making money on the Internet is adding value, like I’ve already mentioned.

People making money online are either selling their own products, selling someone else’s products or creating ad space for someone who is. In order to sell products or ads you need to have traffic. Making money online is really that simple. No need to complicate it.

2009 business opportunities to start may be different from the businesses your parents or grandparents started but make no mistake, there is a lot of money to be made with the best home based business opportunities.

The top business to start is different for everyone. Find the one you feel good about in your gut and roll with that. I like to mention that its unlikely your business will look exactly like you thought it would, so stay flexible and let your results determine your decisions.

Top home based businesses are simple, straight forward and productive. Don’t expect to be spoon fed and hand held, but do expect to get your questions answered!

Whats The Best Business Opportunity To Start?

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Trying to figure out the best business opportunities for 2009 can be a bit tricky. With a more unstable economy, picking the best business to start is crucial. Not to over simplify, but starting a business that requires little to no start up capital might be a good idea in today’s economy, and here is why:

Low start up capital means low risk.

If the business opportunity does not pan out, your not out much. Many people opt for business opportunities that are simple and fast. Online businesses, for example can many times be started for free or with very little start up costs. Many people will actually start a group of web sites and in couple months time, have them narrowed down to ones that will be profitable. Selling ads space can be a great business model.

I use this business idea on several of my own sites and it seems productive. Regardless of the business opportunity to start, you’ll be adding value. Its important to know what that value is and to whom its being added. For example if your building traffic to sell ad space then the value is for the advertiser. Your ability to attract good traffic for a specific advertiser will determine how much money you can earn. Profitable business opportunities or business ideas are everywhere you can add value.

Building an online business that caters to a specific niche is also a key to starting an online business. You may find it profitable to create a readership or a following and then sell your own products passively on your website. Using the search engines to get traffic can be a cost effective way to get your information to you niche audience and a well designed site is key for getting them to come back.

One of the best business advice ideas I’ve heard is to build the business around what you want. This means lifestyle. How often do you want to work and how much time are you willing to invest? Do you want to deal with customers, and shipping, and all of the other elements of a traditional business? I know I wanted a business model that would let me choose when I worked. I also wanted to be able to work from home or on a laptop. This site and a few others allows me that freedom.

The best business opportunities in 2009 are going to be the ones that will allow you to fail cheaply. Start a few different business ideas and roll with the ones that make money and inspire you. From my experience, starting several websites and selling ad space is a cool business idea.

Turnkey business opportunities is another good business idea. Many turnkey home based business opportunities will allow a person with little business experience to start making money more quickly than a traditional business and with much less in the way of start up capital. I was introduced to the Internet via a turnkey business opportunity in the personal development field. I liked personal development and was looking for a good way to earn money online. The business I found seemed a good fit so I choose to get started.

I think that is the key. Choose a business opportunity that is a good fit for you and what your looking to accomplish. Online business opportunities and work at home businesses are profitable business models because of low fixed expenses, and the low start up capital requirements. Starting a business online is a great opportunity for a person who does not want to dump 250 thousand dollars in a business they’re not sure they want to start in the first place.

There are many free website platforms to start an online business with a website. I think starting a website or blog is one of the best businesses to start. Young people like college students or people who have full time jobs can start a web business and earn extra money. I’ve found persistence really pays online. Most people start and then give up on their business idea before they really earn any money. Just keep at it.

Finding information online about starting a business is easy. Figuring out which information is credible can be tough. The cool thing about many online entrepreneurs who make money is they are more than willing to share how they have done it. Spend some time researching different money making strategies online. Find something that delivers the results your looking for and go to work.

Remember, most profitable online business ideas are simple. Its about low fixed expenses and low initial start up cost. Affiliate products are a great way to monetize your web traffic and you can find affiliate products for just about any business industry. The bottom line for a successful online business is targeted traffic. You’ve got to have targeted traffic if your going to make money. Figure out what traffic your after and learn creative ways to build traffic.

Lets here your experience and ideas! What are some good home business opportunities your familiar with?

What are Some Legitimate Home Based Businesses?

Friday, November 7th, 2008

What are your options when it comes to home based businesses? Legitimate home based business opportunities are bound only by your imagination really. Technically a home based business is a business that is based in the home. Not all the best home based businesses are true work at home business models… here’s what I mean.

Lets say you have a flower business that is home based. Your home office might handle the administrative aspects of the business work while you’ll still need to deliver the flowers to the homes of you customers or provide a way for them to pick them up. Your business model will greatly influence the profitability of your new home business, so chose carefully.

Stay at Home Moms

Many stay at home moms start a home based business so they can be home with their family while still contributing to a the household income. Top home based business ideas can include turnkey business opportunities, much like a franchise, but homebased. Most turnkey opportunities will have a system in place and a step by step business plan to get a person up and earning money quickly.

Simple Home Based Business Concepts

Many of the best home based businesses are simple and more specialised than current business models that leave gaps in the market place. A good example could be customer care or customer relationship management business. Lets say you know a few small business owners who’s core business and income come from a service type ativity. A person could develop a follow up system and survey existing customer to improve service. This business could be totally operated from your home office with the Internet and a telephone.

Home based Internet Business Ideas

Internet home based businesses are very popular as well. Many of these home business ideas require some marketing expertise or a strong desire to succeed and a willingness to learn those online marketing skills that are detrimental to a successful online business.

What makes a home based business legitimate is whether or not it works… I don’t mean to sound overly simple but, think about it. Ask your self:

  • Does the business make sense?
  • Can you get the product or service to the customer?
  • Is there a demand for the product or service?
  • What is the profit potential? Is it worth it?
  • How competitive is the market, can you gain sufficient market share?
  • Is your idea connected to an idea that already is proven?
  • Do the people in your life support the idea?

I’d like to provide a list of home based businesses, to do that I’m going to allow the readers to list ideas they have direct experience with. Tell us briefly, about successful home based business ideas, and little about how they work. Thank you for your feedback.

Business Planning: Worthwhile Business Planning Exercise…

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

Business Planning… My Take….

Real Quick… This won’t be me telling you how to plan your business. The technical aspect of business planning is well covered and If your the technical type and find value in technical business planning information, you’ll have to take your search elsewhere.

Business Planning Where to Start.

Planning that starts from an integral source is an intelligent planning. Breaking up a business plan from a life plan or family plan is futile… It doesn’t work. Compartmentalizing planning, engineering your life by “Business Planning” and such is a foundation less pursuit in my experience. The integral source by the way could be you, your dream in life?

When planning a business you must define success. A business plan that defines success as market share, position in market niche, or % of yearly or quarterly growth, is silly and creates maniacal people. I come from the small business perspective more specifically the entrepreneurial perspective.

How to Create a Strong Business Plan.

A strong business plan starts with you the entrepreneur. What effect does the business going here or there have on you, your dreams, aspirations, and objectives in life? Creating an academic, manipulative, document of architecture that describes the intended path of a business is silly. Business doesn’t work that way.

Business planning that is approached from a perspective of need is silly. Creating a Business plan so a bank will give you money? Its like intelligent begging. What about a business plan that doesn’t need the banks money? Could a great business plan be contingent on an idea that seeds itself? Could the core business philosophy create movement in the business. A business that is underway produces data, observables, trends, right?

Alternative Business Plan.

Maybe when a person starts with the end in mind, their end result. The result they want. Maybe from this perspective the business doesn’t need a “plan” but effort. Another or maybe alternative way to approach a business plan is to create momentum. If the need arises for you to have a “proper business Plan“, you might find it much easier to create with some results to reflect on, expand on, and steer into the future?

Give Advice on Business Planning.

We appreciate your thoughts and experience on successfully planning a business or not planning a business.

Your Critique is welcomed as well. Thank You.

Successful Business To Start 2008

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

A good percentage of our readers are seeking business opportunities or looking for information on starting a small business.

Being successful in business starts with a plan ( and finding the best business to start for you)and ends with persistence and innovation.

Janelle and I operate a successful home business that is best described as an affiliate program worth marketing. We use the Internet for much of our marketing and this means ROI is key.

High profit affiliate program

If your familiar with affiliate marketing you have a good idea of the conversion numbers. Between 3-5 % of people who visit will click and then again somewhere around 3-5 % will buy.

I once thought that price matter. In other words, I thought more people would buy if the product was priced at 10 buck than in it was priced at twenty buck… I know now that is foolish and totally unsupported by the number.

So what does all that mean? Well if your doing the work anyway, why not get paid for it. Market high end products that present a creative offer? Small business ideas are simple and are put in front of a target market correctly to achieve results.

High margin affiliate products

We work with profits between 1,000 and 8,000 dollars. If you want to start a successful business or your looking for one you won’t waste your time in evaluating this business….

Its not for everyone. Go check it out… and see if it looks like a fit for you.Go here> Legitimate business

If you’ve been looking for a successful business to start for awhile now, get the information on this business and make a decision. Either its a fit or not. If it is, we will help you get started an profitable quickly, if not you’ll be closer to finding to the right business for you.
