Safety with Car Seatsby Linda Jones Home > Safety with Car Seats
Every year, thousands of babies and children are both injured and killed because they are just not using safety seats or using them incorrectly. The frustrating part of all of this is that this problem could be avoided with a little more care and better attention. Here are some tips in finding the right safety seat for your baby or child: Which car seat is the best for your child? The answer seems easy, but that isn't always the case. You have to take into consideration the brand name, the size of your child, and the weight of your child. When shopping for a car safety seat, keep the following in mind: Don't simply look at the price and choose the one that is the most expensive. The price is no indication of how safe the seat actually is. It is only an indication of how much money that company wants to make. Every seat that is sold in the United States has to meet government regulations for safety. You may want to consider jumping online and looking for safety seats that have been recalled so you can avoid getting one of those seats. When you are at the store, don't hesitate putting your child in the seat and adjusting the belts. See if you like it. See if your child likes it. Another thing that may be helpful in keeping your child safe is never putting them in the front seat if they are still young enough to be in a car seat. I personally wouldn't put my child in the front seat until he/she was 12 or 13 years old. In most states, children need to be in a rear facing car seat until they are both one year old and at least 20 pounds. You should also always wear your seat belt so your children can see you and learn. One more thing, always keep the safety seat instructions in the car with you. They have important phone numbers that you may need to have at a seconds notice.
